Happy 6 Months Finley!

It is hard for me to believe we are already 1/2 of the way through your first year. Time is flying by, yet I can barely remember life without you.

You go to the doctor next week so I will have to update then on your stats.

You wear 3-6/6 month clothes but are just starting to get into 6-9 month clothes. You wear size 3 diapers and 1-2 shoes.

You are a great sleeper. You go to bed between 7:30-8 at night and sleep until about 7-7:30. By 9:00 you are ready for you morning nap which is usually you best nap of the day. You take an afternoon nap and if it is too short sometimes you still take 2 short afternoon naps.

Your eating schedule is usually 7:30, 11, 2, 5 & 7:30. Some days you vary from that but it is usually pretty close. You also get 2 cubes of food around 12;30 and 6:30. You LOVE your baby food. You get so excited when you see me fixing it. Every time I open the freezer you get excited thinking I am going to get you some food.

You are such a happy baby. If you are hungry or tired you let us know, and you have your occasional need for attention but who doesn’t. You do love to be held and you LOVE attention.

You are a pro a getting your paci in your mouth. It seems as though you have perfected that skill in the last month. You are much more attached to your paci than your brother ever was, that kinda scares me.

You are sitting up great. I will put you in your room with toys around you and you do so great entertaining yourself in there. Just this week I have started letting you sit in on the wood floor to play, usually with a thick blanket for when you fall over. However, you are so graceful when you take a tumble. It is almost like you are trying to make it look like you are falling over on purpose.

You like to roll all over the place. When you sleep you move all over your bed, I’m not sure how you sleep when you are moving that much. Changing you diaper has become quite the challenge, you never stop moving and constantly want to roll to your stomach.

You still only have 2 teeth on the bottom but you are constantly chewing on your fingers so I have a feeling more are coming soon.

Everything you can get your hands on goes straight to your month right now, including your feet.

You like to sit and play with toys but you love your exersaucer and today I put you in the walker for the first time at home and you love it too. Your favorite toy is probably your Sofie the Giraffe.

You have been going to the church nursery for awhile now and this month I started sending you to the church during our small groups. You like to “talk” and squeal especially when you get excited and I knew you would be much happier playing at the church than at our house being tamed.

I would say you are still a Momma’s girl, but the way your face lights up when your Daddy walks in the room melts my heart. But more than anything, you love your brother. You still think he is the funniest person in the world. No matter if you are hungry or tired he can make you smile. You adore him and he feels the same about you. This month you two have started interacting more and love to play together.

You also love Maggie. You like to watch her run around, but most of all you like to pet her. You are very nice and gentle with her and she will sit and let you pet her as long as you want.

You stole our hearts on day 1 and I can’t believe you are already 6 months.

Deacon and Finley both at 6 months.

We love you so much sweet girl!

Getting these pictures were a chore this month. This girl does not like to sit still and since we were in her room she was seeing all of her toys and wanted to play rather than have her picture taken.

Spring Break

Last week was Deacon’s spring break and we started his break out with a long weekend trip to Illinois/Indiana.

Deacon had a big trip up there riding the four wheeler, gator, driving PawPaw’s truck, playing with cousins, fishing and the list goes on and on. It is no wonder he loves going up there.

Every time I see these two side by side I am amazed that they are only 1 month apart. I love that they are so close in age and they play very well together. Even though there are hundreds of miles between them I have hopes that they will be close. (This is also the only picture I took at Joanna’s birthday party, I am terrible at taking pictures lately.)

On the way home we stopped at a rest area that had a great play area. We all were in need of a break from the car so this was perfect.

Finley has started sitting up really well lately and I think that is making Deacon realize that she is getting bigger. He loves to play with her in her room with her toys and sometimes will request that she come in his room and play so they can be together.

We are still learning the concept of sharing. There are times that he will take a toy away from her and when I tell him not to take toys away from her he says, “but we are sharing.” Yes, we need to work on that.

In this picture they are riding on a boat. This is a very common thing for Deacon to do, he loads up a blanket on the floor or his bed and calls it a boat, airplane or space shuttle and he goes on an adventure. On this day he invited Finley to come along and they were going to Texas to see their friend Owen. At this point last week a boat might have been required to get to Texas.

Deacon had a hard time with Finley taking naps last week. He always wanted her awake if he was awake.

Deacon even gave Finley a ride on his fire truck, which is his favorite toy of all times. I’m not sure how it will go when Finley is big enough to try and take over this toy.

Deacon was a big helper in the kitchen last week. He helped cook and make Finley’s baby food.

On Friday we went to the zoo with the Welch’s and Moore’s. This was our first trip of the spring and Finley’s 1st trip. Here is Easton, Ellie and Deacon riding the train, Deacon’s favorite part of the zoo.

I think Finley loved having Deacon home all week. She is always entertained and full of smiles when he is around.

We had a great spring break but now we are back to our normal busy schedule.

Moving Pics

During the actual moving process I didn’t take any pictures. 1.) for the the obvious reason, I was a bit busy mostly directing where everything was to go. 2.) I felt terrible.

Approximately 36 hours before we were supposed to move I started feeling a bug coming on. No matter how much I tried to ignore it over the next few days it was not going away. Sunday I stayed home from church and then Monday I woke up and had no voice. This lingered through the week. And after several calls from my mom offering to come down to help with the kids so I could rest, I finally decided getting better was more important that my pride and said yes I needed her. After about 1.5 days of rest I was feeling better already. I am so thankful for my mom coming down to my rescue.

Also a big thank you to all of our friends and family who helped in the moving process. Miss Laurie came and took Deacon for a day out. He was so excited to get to spend the morning with her and it was nice to have him out of the way while things were being moved. I stole this picture from her :)

Both of our parents and Landon and Julie came down to help all weekend. I don’t think we could have done it without them. We had a lot of help to pack up and unpack the truck and then they helped us put so much away. Our kitchen and kids rooms were pretty much done on Saturday, simply amazing.

Here are a few pictures I did get after we had everything moved in.

Deacon and Landon were playing baseball and having Julie be their announcer. Although in this picture it looks as though Deacon is about to beat Landon over the head with the bat.

My mom is usually the gift buyer in our family by one of the first things my dad bought for both of our kids was a piggy bank. Every time they come to visit he gives Deacon money to put in his pig, which is one of Deacon’s favorite things to do.

Deacon goes to the Dentist

Deacon had a dentist appointment this week and unfortunately it was during both kids usual nap time. With Bible study, MDO and other things going on that was the only time we could go. I fueled myself up with a Sonic diet coke that morning so I was ready to take on the task.

Deacon loves going to the dentist, primarily for the waiting room. Most of our wait he sat in the tree house watching a movie.

20120306-170824.jpg

Since he had a full check up last fall all they had to do this time was clean his teeth (with chocolate toothpaste…yuck!) and make sure everything looked good.

20120306-170948.jpg

He was happy to hear that he didn’t have any germs in his mouth and picked out this for prize.

Finley watched very intently the whole time and of course found it funny at times. She thinks everything Deacon does is funny.

Second Chance

One thing that I never did with Deacon to was encourage him to play by himself. Mostly because I worked until he was 18 months old so every waking moment I felt like I needed to entertain him or be spending time with him, mostly out of guilt. Before I had Finley I was still trying to force encourage him to play by himself. He has gotten better in the last several months, but according to him he isn’t playing alone (imaginary) Reed is usually always with him. Whatever it takes!

With Finley I decided to start encouraging alone play time much earlier.

She honestly does enjoy sitting in her bed playing. It doesn’t last long but I can get a lot accomplished in 15 minutes while she is in there playing away.

I find it so funny the things I am already doing differently the second time around.

Crazy Sleeper

Every night before I go to bed I check on both kids. Usually it is just to make sure they are breathing, because I am paranoid, and cover Deacon up since he does not want covered up while he is going to sleep. However the last few nights have been interesting because we never knew how we would find Deacon.

He has always been a crazy sleeper
but now he just adds an element of surprise at night for us.
