Deacon's First Christmas
We hope you all had a Merry Christmas! We had a very busy, fun filled Christmas. We headed to Illinois on Friday evening and an hour into the trip we were stuck in traffic for almost 45 minutes. There was a very bad wreck on I-40 that resulted in a huge backup. It was very comical though to see people getting out of their cars to get things out of suitcases and even taking their dogs for walks along the interstate. I am usually one of those people who get very upset when things do not go as planned or when I have to be patient and wait in a traffic jam, but on that day I was just thankful that we were safe. When we arrived in Wayne City late Friday night we crashed the dance lock-in up at the studio and Deacon enjoyed watching the dancers.

Throughout the week we had several Christmas and got to spend a lot of time with our family. On Sunday we had the Barnard Christmas. Here is Deacon with some of his cousins.

Tuesday we were suppose to go up to MaMaw Chris and PaPaw Kent’s house for Christmas, but since there was an ice storm and the roads were slick they came to Wayne City. Deacon and Kenlee enjoyed playing with each other.

Wednesday we had Christmas with Grandpa Lowell and Grandma Shirley. Then on Christmas day we stayed busy with four Christmas’. We had our Christmas, then we had Christmas with MaMaw Tonya and PaPaw Ron, then Christmas night we had the Garner Christmas and another one at the Barnard’s. So needless to say we were exhausted.
With this being Deacon’s first Christmas I wanted to start some traditions, and one of those were to have matching pajamas for Christmas morning. I found that it was impossible to do this a week before Christmas so I settled for color coordinating pajamas.
There is a story behind these shoes. Monday night Bryan went to a basketball game in Carbondale and texted me and said that he got Deacon another Christmas present. I assumed it was a SIU apparel, but I was wrong…he got him these bright red Chucks. I am not particularly a fan of these shoes, but Bryan loves them. So when you see Deacon wear these you will know who dressed him that day.
On Friday, MaMaw Tonya babysat while Bryan and I went and watched Marley & Me. It was a great movie but I should have had a box of Kleenex with me. It was nice for just the two of us to go spend time together.

Saturday we packed everything up and headed home. Deacon did great both on the way there and home. As you can see we couldn’t have possibly fit another thing in the car. While carrying in all of Deacon’s new toys I told Bryan we needed to invest in a toy box, however Bryan proclaimed we needed a bigger house. Deacon had a great first Christmas and we hope you all did too!

Here are some pictures from Christmas. I will post more later.

4 Months
Deacon is four months old today! The last four months have been so much fun and I know there is a lot more to come. He is our entertainment everyday. We are truly blessed to have him in our lives and enjoy every moment we get to spend with him.

What Deacon is doing at 4 months:
-rolling over: mostly just from his back to his belly, but occasionally from his belly to his back
-playing with his feet and constantly untying his shoes
-playing with toys and putting everything in his mouth
-talking and squealing, Daddy is his favorite person to talk to
-listening to stories, he thinks everyone is always talking to him
-loves reading books
-grabbing everything…including hair, jewelry and lots of other things he can’t have.
-Putting his pacifier in his mouth all by himself
-Playing in his excersaucer and walker
-Last but not least…eating cereal

I will post lots of pictures when we get home from Illinois.

Ice Day at Home
Arkansas was hit with ice yesterday and into the early morning, this resulted in a fun day at the Barnard house. Yesterday when the sleet started coming down pretty hard I went and picked up Deacon from daycare. When I got back to work Lou sent us home. A couple of hours later Bryan was also sent home early. We spent our evening playing with Deacon.
This morning I woke up early to do some work that I had brought home since I knew I would not be going to work today. Bryan and Deacon both slept in so I was able to get a lot done. But once they woke up we had lots of family fun time. For the most part we just hung out and played today, we even opened up an early Christmas present from MaMaw Tonya and PaPaw Ron. It is a little piano that has a mirror on it and Deacon loves it.
This afternoon we made Christmas cookies. It was quite an experiment. I usually just buy the premade dough, cut out the cookies then make my own icing, but this year we did it all from scratch. They ended up pretty good, but it was very time consuming and messy!
Deacon has been rolling over more frequently, but like most things he only does it when he wants to. Bryan had never seen him roll over so I was trying to get him to roll over last night and all day today. Finally tonight he gave in and proved to Bryan that I was not lying, he really can roll over. He prefers to roll from his back to his belly. I am sure in a few days he will be rolling all around. Here is Deacon in action.
All of you in Illinois are probably shocked that we did not go to work today because of a little ice. I know what you mean, I was shocked the first time we had an ice storm here. But trust me it is not safe to get on the roads here even when it is a little slick. They do not salt the roads like they do in Illinois. Not to mention, the drivers here are crazy when there is ice and snow. And literally everything shuts down. I know that up there you guys got hit pretty hard this week with winter weather so hopefully you all are staying warm and safe.
Nonetheless, we really enjoyed our day at home, but I am sure it will be back to reality tomorrow.

Here are some pictures from today. Enjoy!

Deacon the growing boy
Oh, how Deacon is growing, which means he is outgrowing things quickly. So, I spent most of the afternoon in his room boxing up all the clothes he can no longer wear. It is amazing how many clothes that boy has. All I have to say is thank goodness for vacuum storage bags or we would fill up our garage with storage boxes. We also packed up other items that we no longer use, including that bassinet that has been sitting in his room not being used. Now that I have everything cleaned and organized I am sure that it will all be chaos again when we come home from Christmas.

Things were really put into perspective this week when we went to visit baby Owen. Friday night we went over to Kyle and Amy’s and as I was holding little Owen I realized that Deacon is getting so big. Then Kyle picked up Deacon and proclaimed that he had grown so much in just a week. I seem to believe that has something to do with him having a baby that is about ½ Deacon’s weight. Nonetheless, he has had a bit of a growth spurt. When we came home from Thanksgiving he could not reach the bottom of his bounce bounce baby, but now he can. Just barely, but at least he can. And he absolutely loves it. Thanks PaPaw Kent and MaMaw Chris! They got to see him play in it tonight when we Skyped with them.

Overall, we have had a pretty good week, but I have to tell a little story on myself. I usually have it all together, but Friday I was having a case of the Mondays. I get to Deacon’s daycare to drop him off and I realized…I forgot his bottles. My first thought was, well actually I think I said it out loud, “crap, now I have to go all the way back home to get his bottles.” But, then I thought well maybe for some unknown reason Bryan is still at home. I hurry to call him and thank goodness he was at home. I am still not sure what he was doing but at that time I didn’t care. Being the great dad/husband he is, he said that he would bring Deacon’s bottles to daycare, it was probably about 30 minutes of his way. So, thank you Bryan for saving me, I’m sure I would have figured something out, but thankfully I didn’t have to. I keep telling Bryan that I think Deacon took my brain. I am constantly forgetting things, or asking Bryan a question and 2 minutes later asking the same question. Hopefully, I get it all together soon.

This week we will prepare for our trip to Illinois for Christmas. We can't wait to see everyone again and celebrate Deacon's first Christmas.

Here are some pictures from the past week.

Happy Birthday MaMaw Tonya
We want to wish MaMaw Tonya a Happy Birthday today! We hope you had a great day.
Since I have had Deacon I have a new found respect for mothers in general. I have always had a very close relationship with my mom but it seems like we have a much stonger bond now that I am also a mother. I am so blessed to have a great relationship with my mom. But most of all I am thankful for the great grandmother she is. Happy Birthday Mom!
