Got Tubes?
Everything went great today! Deacon woke up early as usual, but Bryan was able to get him back to sleep while I got ready. Then we changed his diaper and put him in the car. The whole way to the surgery center he played and laughed. We arrived at the surgery center at 7 and the waiting room was full. It was almost like an assembly line process that they have going on there. We were called back around 7:15 and talked to a nurse, then the anesthesiologist came and talked to us and then we talked with the doctor. When we were about done talking to her a nurse came to carry Deacon into the OR and I had been worried about how Deacon would do at this point. But the nurse was a very nice man and when he reached for Deacon he went right to him and off they went into the OR without a single tear. That was great!

Bryan and I went out to the waiting room about 7:25. Bryan sent out a text message to our family and then was trying to setup his out of office on his email when the doctor came out and said she was done. It seriously probably took 10 minutes. We had what seemed to be a long walk down the hallway to get to recovery. While we were walking the doctor said Deacon need these tubes BAD! She said when she examined him the other day she could see there was fluid on his ears but when she got in there she found that it was very thick, gum-like, fluid. When we walked into the recovery room there was a nurse holding him and he was screaming. They had told us to expect this, but it was still heart breaking to see him crying like this. We have him some juice but nothing calmed him down. We had to stay in recovery for 15 minutes, and he cried the whole time. Once we were released we got in the car and I looked at the clock and it said 7:58. I could not believe we were in and out of there in an hour. I remember several occasions that my OB appointments took longer than that when I was pregnant.

The nurse that took care of him in recovery was actually a friend of our friend Laurie. Laurie had told me that her friend worked there and she had told her we were coming in today. She was very sweet.

Deacon cried the whole way home and then we I handed him to Bryan he seen this and stopped crying immediately. He is obsessed with this and always wants to play with it. I think they stayed out in the garage for about 5 minutes.

After they came in I fed Deacon and all of a sudden he was back normal and ready to play and we did just that.

He even felt up to doing a little dancing.

Then since we were all hungry and tired we ate breakfast and all took a long nap. We got up and played some more. Deacon is still doing great, just like nothing out of the ordinary happened today. He is a little trooper.

Deacon got these balloons and bear from the Taylor’s and Uncle Landon and he loves them, thank you so much. The balloons have a little clip on them that Bryan clipped to Deacon’s outfit and he has had a big time with them.

I had to show this picture because I absolutely love it. I love these two so much.

We want to thank everyone for all the cards, calls, texts and prayers. We really appreciate it all.

Tomorrow = Tubes
Tomorrow is the big day, Deacon will get tubes in the morning. We have to be there at 7 and his surgery is scheduled for 7:30. Hopefully, everything will be right on schedule.

My plan is to feed him tonight about 11:30 (and hopefully he will go right back to sleep). I am hoping this will help him to not be starving first thing in the morning. I am also hoping that he sleeps in tomorrow so we can just get him out of bed, change his diaper and put him in the car (it is very likely he will go back to sleep in the car), this will reduce the chance of him wanting to eat. I of course will be prepared with lots of books and toys to try to distract him and we can’t forget Mr. Monkey.

Mr. Monkey has now somewhat become a security blanket. This is partly my fault. When taking away the paci, I put Mr. Monkey in his bed for him to snuggle with and it has seemed to work pretty well. Not to mention it looks so cute when he snuggles up with him at night.

Tonight we will be doing lots of this…

Then after Deacon goes to bed I am planning on filling my night with things to keep me busy. Packing things for tomorrow, laundry (oh, the dreaded laundry), cleaning (no more cleaning lady :(…I will fill you in later) and maybe a short run (if there is time).

I am feeling much more at peace with everything that will go on tomorrow. I have prayed about it A LOT and know that God is going to take care our precious little boy. Thank goodness his Daddy is strong for the both of us.

Everyone has said that once their child got tubes they were like a different child. Deacon really isn’t very fussy, so I am anxious to see what changes. Hopefully, not his funny faces like these.

Hanging Out With The Taylor's
This weekend my sister and her family visited. They arrive Friday afternoon, which was Cayden’s birthday. I had asked Cayden what he wanted for his birthday dinner and he said hotdogs and chips. I do not like hotdogs at all and have never even made a hotdog, but since that was what he requested that is what he got. We also had hamburgers, for those of us who don’t like hotdogs, and macaroni and cheese (even though he told me he didn’t want to go to the trouble, ha). After dinner we had cake from Coldstone, yum!

I can’t believe he is already 7.

On Saturday we went to Chuck E. Cheese. This was Deacon’s 1st time there and I think he enjoyed it. He loved the Bob the Builder truck, I think mostly because it had a steering wheel. He also liked the duck game where he hit a button to knock the ducks over. I have a feeling this was a 1st of many to come.

I got these little toys that stick to things for Cayden and McGwire to play with but Deacon ended up taking them over. He loves these things. Like everything else he put one in this mouth and ended up getting his tongue stuck in it. It was so funny.

The dads’ took all the boys swimming and had lots of fun, while the moms’ stayed home and cooked dinner. We had lots of fun and were so happy they came to visit. Thanks again for coming!

Can you tell that we had to feed Deacon Cheerios to get this picture?

Just a Swingin'
Bryan and I had decided that we wanted to get Deacon a swingset…kinda for his birthday. We wanted to get it early so he could enjoy it all summer. We slowly started looking in May, but just couldn’t find what we wanted. We wanted a wooden one, but did not want a massive one. We figured that if in the future we felt the need for a bigger one, we would get one then. Last Sunday I was looking through the ads in the Sunday paper and I found one that I liked. Monday night we decided to go check it out, we both liked it and lucky for us they had 1 left! We said we wanted it but we were going to meet friends for dinner and we had to figure out how to transport it back home. After dinner Bryan decided to try to get the boxes to fit in my car with all the seats laid it thankfully fit.

This past weekend Bryan worked several hours (even late into the night) putting it together all by himself. Doesn’t Deacon have the greatest Daddy? On Sunday, Bryan had about an hour of work to do on it and then it was time for Deacon to try it out. He loved it! He loves just hanging out in his swing, he is so relaxed while he is in it.

On Monday we let him try out the slide and he loved it! He stuck to it so I would have to hold his feet up to let him slide down it.

When he got to the bottom of the slide he enjoyed just hanging out there.

When we sat him up at the top of the slide to get a picture he decided he wanted to go down the slide and grabbed a hold and was ready to take off.

He is going to have so much fun playing on his swingset.

11 Months
The past 11 months have flown by. When I look at baby pictures like this:

I can’t believe he has grown into this:

Deacon is learning something new every day it seems. Here is what he is doing at 11 months:
-Crawling…Everywhere! That boy is so fast. I am constantly pulling him away from Maggie’s food/water bowels. If someone leaves the room he is on a mission to find out where they are going and what they are doing.
-Standing/Pulling Up…He can pull up on everything now. He will crawl up to a wall, stand up and walk along the wall. He is willing to let go and stand alone but he doesn’t have great balance yet. The longest he has stood alone was about 10 seconds, which I think is pretty good.
-Practicing Walking…he loves to practice. He likes to push around his little push toy all over the house. The only problem is that he hasn’t mastered turning around. When he runs into a wall he tries to get it turned but usually ends up banging the toy again the wall until Mommy or Daddy come to help. He also likes to practice walking with Mommy and Daddy. We will either walk around and let him hold one of our hands or we will sit apart on the floor and let him walk back and forth between us.
-He still only has 2 teeth, but I think he is teething again. He loves brushing his teeth.
-Sleeping…Deacon’s sleep schedule is: he goes to bed about 8:00 and he wakes up 2-3 minutes before 6:00 consistently. During the week we, or I should say I, get up at 6 so Deacon is just a little early warning that our alarm is getting ready to go off. On the weekends he is great about going back to sleep so we can all sleep in. Usually we can sleep until at least 7:30 or 8:00. Deacon still takes a morning and afternoon nap, you just never know how long they are going to be. Sometimes it’s 30 minutes some times its an hour and a half.
-Singing and Dancing…even though I am a terrible singer Deacon loves to sing songs with me. While I sing he will clap his hands and dance. He loves to listen to music in the car and clap along.
-Playing Shadow…if he sees or hears someone do something he likes to copy them. It is so cute.
-Loves to Eat! Deacon loves his food. He is eating a lot more food now. He eats yogurt every morning for breakfast and sometimes he wants something else so he will get cereal or toast. For lunch he eats 5 cubes of food usually consisting of chicken, 2 vegetables and 2 fruits. One of his favorite lunch time foods is grilled cheese. For dinner Deacon eats 6 cubes of food. He is getting more and more table food and loves it. I think one of his favorites is chicken pot pie, which Mommy and Daddy love it too.
-Loves bath time! Deacon has so much fun playing in the bathtub. We just love watching him and on the nights we are both home we usually both end up in the bathroom being entertained. He loves crawling back and forth and his newest thing is sticking his face in the water.
-Last but not least…Deacon is saying Mama! I have been waiting a long time to hear him say those words. The other day I was yelling for Maggie and I think he even tried to say Maggie…although it came out Maaa. It was a different tone of voice than he says Mama, it was more like he was yelling at her, lol. I have always said that Maggie would be his first word.

I can’t believe we are going to be celebrating Deacon’s 1st birthday very soon. We love this little boy more than words can express. He brings so much joy and excitement to our lives. He is constantly entertaining us and we love every second of it.
