( 3 / 65 )1...2...3
The story of our day yesterday: 1 photo session, 2 doctor appointments, 3 ears infected. What a day!Deacon had his 9 month pictures a month late so now they are 10 month pictures. We had to reschedule them 2 times, once because I had my dates mixed up and scheduled them when we were in Illinois. Then last week he had a fever.
I have not been feeling well for a couple weeks, but I held off going to the doctor since I was breastfeeding I didn’t know if they would do much for me. And no, I’m not pregnant. I was talking to my brother on the way to the doctor and that was what he asked. I told him I had a sore throat and ear ache, but he insisted that if I was pregnant he wanted to be the first to know. But I did find out I have an ear infection. Since we were going out of town my doctor said he wanted to take an aggressive approach, so I got a shot in the butt (always fun) and put me on Omnicef. So there is one infected ear.
I also made Deacon a doctor appointment yesterday, but as the time came near for his appointment I was kinda reluctant to take him. See he really didn’t seem like he felt bad, he just had been waking up in the middle of the night and in the evenings he was fussy. However, my intuition told me that it could be an ear infection and I wanted to get him checked out before we left. Sure enough I was right, he has a double ear infection. What motherly intuition I have, right? He is on Omnicef as well. I also think that he may be trying to get in one of his top teeth so that really isn’t helping matters. In reality when Deacon is sick you really can’t tell. That is why it is always a guessing game when he has an ear infection. But I am glad that he is handles illness so well.
We did get a referral for an ENT. So this week I will call and make an appointment with her to discuss Deacon getting tubes. I have mixed feelings about this. If anyone has any advice I would love it!
After our doctor appointments and getting our medicine we head home. I finished packing and loaded up the car and we headed out after Bryan got off work. We made it to Jackson, MS last night about 10:45. Deacon was very fussy the last hour of the trip. That bad thing was is that there was no where to pull over to get him out or try to feed him. So, finally I did what any crazy breastfeeding mommy would do and fed him in his carseat while going down the interstate. I am sure this is not the safest (or legal) thing to do. But the only exits we were passing had absolutely nothing, I mean there were no lights anywhere near. There was no way we were sitting in a strange, pitch black place…I am kinda a chicken like that.
Once we got to the hotel Deacon was wide awake. Him and Bryan stayed up and had a little party and by party I mean he crawled all over the hotel room playing. It was a struggle but I finally got him to sleep.
Well, my two boys are waking up so I’ve got to go. Sorry there are no pictures this time, my camera is in the car.

( 3 / 61 )Swimming Lessons
While I was pregnant and doing Aqua Moms, I heard of a lot of different places that offered Mommy and me swim lessons for infants. A couple months ago I decided to sign Deacon up for one of those. It was 30 minutes a day for 2 weeks. When I asked about the age requirement I was told they start at 6 months and they said the younger the better. I wouldn’t say that Deacon got a whole lot out of swim lessons, but he did have fun. I think the idea was to get the babies accustom to being in the water, but Deacon didn’t need any help with that.
His favorite part of swim lessons what the splashing! The boy loves to splash. When he takes a bath water is everywhere. There were a few things Deacon did learn…how to climb out of the pool, “jump” (more like fall, since he did this sitting rather than standing) into the pool and instead of learning to blow bubbles like all the rest of the kids he would just stick his face in the water.
We sang songs that incorporated motions, but Deacon is very stubborn and does not like anyone to try to control his arms or legs.
Nonetheless, we both enjoyed his swim lessons. And we got to do this with two of his friends Chandler and Kaleb.

( 3 / 59 )Fun With MawMaw Tonya
This past weekend MawMaw Tonya came for a visit. PawPaw Ron was supposed to come but because of the crazy weather for the past few months he had to stay back in Illinois. My plan was to run errands and get things done this past weekend to prepare for our upcoming vacation. But once Deacon got sick my plan changed and we were staying at home. Once MawMaw got here on Friday she babysat for a while I ran some errands. Then that evening after Deacon went to bed, mom and I did some late night shopping. Saturday Deacon was feeling much better so we ran a few errands and then went to the pool. Deacon is a little water baby. My plan was that we would go to the pool, let him get in for a bit then he would take a nap there. Well, that was not Deacon’s plan. He wanted to be in the pool the whole time, so he was.
MawMaw left early Sunday morning, even though she came alone she did not make the trip back to Illinois alone. No, we did not let her take Deacon…she took Maggie. But just for a couple weeks. They offered to keep Maggie while we go on vacation. I jumped at the offer, because our other choice was boarding her and I am not real found of doing that. Bryan wasn’t too sure at first, but I think it was just because he was afraid she wouldn’t want to come back and live with us after being with them for 2 weeks. When she is at their house she gets treated like the queen of dog. My dad takes her on several walks a day, which she loves. Every time he puts on his shoes she gets excited because she thinks they are either going walking or she will at least get to go in the car with him. She also eats very well when she is there…and I am not talking about her dog food. I am sure she will have gain some weight when we see her next. They have a huge yard with lots of birds and squirrels for her to chase and that she does. This week we are missing Maggie, but we know she is in good hands.
One thing MawMaw learned about Deacon this visit was that he doesn’t share very well. If MawMaw would get a toy and start playing with it Deacon would immediately go take it away and start playing with it. Of course MawMaw liked playing this game and teasing Deacon.
We had lots of fun and were happy MawMaw could visit. Deacon really missed PawPaw, but he sent him a special gift and I am sure we will see him very soon.

( 3 / 57 )Happy 1st Father's Day!
Yesterday we celebrated Bryan’s first Father’s Day. It started off a little shaky…Deacon had a bit of a belly ache and was very cranky. Once we got that all worked out our day started looking up. I offered to make Bryan his breakfast of choice but due to our weight loss competition (that I won) he only wanted toast. Unfortunately getting breakfast in bed is not that great when you have to deal with a crying baby while your breakfast is being made, but nonetheless he got breakfast in bed. Then we gave him his presents. One of his presents was a little project Deacon and I worked on Friday afternoon. It was a picture frame and one side had this poem with Deacon’s hand print at the bottom and we will put a picture of the two of them on their 1st Father’s Day in the other opening. It was a fun project to do with Deacon, a little messy, but fun. Black ink on a 10 month old’s hand is usually not a good thing.
After church, the three of us enjoyed chicken pot pie and once our bellies were full we grew very sleepy. We had planned on going swimming after lunch but instead we all took a nap. When we woke up it was time for dinner. Bryan wanted ice cream for dinner so that is what we had, well except for Deacon…he had a healthy dinner of baby food. We were afraid after a long nap that Deacon would not sleep well so we decided we would take him swimming for a little while and ware him out. Swimming always makes him sleep well. While at the pool he started rubbing his eyes and getting tired so we were excited we had accomplished our goal. We took him home, bathed him, nursed him and put him to bed.
Bryan, I hope you had a great 1st Father’s Day. I know I enjoyed spending the day with you and Deacon. You are a great Daddy and Deacon and I love you very much. I love the way his face lights up when he sees you and hearing him say DADA, even when he is mad and yelling it. Hearing you two every morning through the monitor while you are getting Deacon ready makes my heart melt. You’re the best Daddy in the world!
Also, Happy Father’s Day to Deacon’s Grandpas, PawPaw Ron and PaPaw Kent. They are two of the greatest men I know. I am so thankful that Deacon has two Grandpas that love him very much and I am sure will make lots of memories in the years to come. We missed you both on Father’s Day, but can’t wait to see you soon!
We hope you all had a great Father’s Day!
