Fun with Daddy
Two nights a week Bryan and Deacon usually do not see each other because Bryan has school and he does not get home until after Deacon has gone to bed. But it seems like every Tuesday Deacon tries to stay up to wait on Bryan. If he is still up when Bryan gets home then they have Daddy and Deacon time and watch American Idol.

Can you tell he is looking past me trying to watch American Idol...he loves Kris Allen!

Sunday afternoon I needed to make babyfood and Deacon needed a nap (Bryan thought he needed one too...see previous post), so I sent them to bed while I made Deacon some food. They were both out and looked so cute cuddled up in the big bed. I think they would have slept all day if I didn't wake them up, but we were on a time schedule for the day. That evening I had a girl’s night and they had some more Deacon and Daddy time. I know they both love when they get their own time. Bryan lets Deacon get away with things that I do not (like playing with Maggie’s basket of toys)…but isn’t that what daddy’s are for?

The other day Bryan was holding Deacon and he had to do something else real quick so he put him in his walker. It wasn’t until after he had him in there he realized he put him in backwards.

I have to tell you a funny thing Deacon did a few days ago...he had just finished eating and he was sitting on my lap waiting for me to burp him and all of a sudden he just burped...and he busted up laughing. I don't know why this all of a sudden was funny to him. Seriously, he has been burping for 8 months and on Sunday for some reason it was very funny to him. It was so cute, and of course Bryan and I busted up laughing which made Deacon laugh even more.

Sleep Deprived?
As you know Deacon has not been sleeping well due to an ear infection and let me just say I require sleep. I am not one of those people that can function on very little sleep, my mom can do this but I cannot. Saturday I was feeding Deacon and almost fell asleep, so as soon as I was done I put him in the floor to play with his Daddy’s supervision and took a little cat nap. It had been a long time since I had taken a nap and it felt great.

Fast forward to Saturday night and all three of us stayed up later than normal…as a result, we were hoping Deacon would sleep great and late into the morning. This was especially true for me because it was my night. On Sunday morning I awake with this weird sensation that something was in my ear...it was my finger. What! Why would I put my finger in my ear, I pulled it out to find that Deacon was screaming. Being the loving, unselfish mother I am, I subconsciously decided I was sleep deprived and chose to plug my ear with my finger so I could continue sleeping. Let me just say that it was 6 a.m. so it took me a few minutes to process all of this and by the time I got myself out of bed, my loving husband (I need to say that for brownie points right now), who was not happy with me at all, was rocking Deacon back to sleep. I offered to get him back to sleep but Bryan who was very disgruntled told he was already up and I might as well go back to bed…and I did :) I will have to say that Bryan is nicer than I am…when it is his night with Deacon and he isn’t waking up to his cries I nudge him and tell him it’s his night. Maybe I should work on being nicer, but it probably won’t happen in the middle of the night.

Anyway, thankfully I have a very forgiving husband (more brownie points) and later in the day we were laughing about it. We just flipped nights and I took last night and he slept until 6 a.m. this morning! I know that may sound weird that we wanted him to sleep later than 6 a.m. on Sunday but were happy that he slept until 6 a.m. today. You see, through the week we “need” to get up at 6 (vary rarely happens) but on the weekends we would like to sleep in.

This picture has nothing to do with being sleep deprived, but I thought it was so funny.

Here are some more pictures from the last few days.

On another note, we are getting ready to buy a convertible car seat…I feel completely overwhelmed by this. If you have any great suggestions I would love to hear them. We have a couple picked out but are still trying to decided. We are going to end up buy 2 (one for my car and one for Bryan’s), but it will probably be two different ones.

What Number is This?
Wednesday night at 1:30 a.m. (I guess technically that would be Thursday morning) Deacon woke up screaming. I went into his room and tried to give him his pacifier, but he did not want it. All he wanted was his Mommy to pick him up and I did just that. But because it was Bryan’s night I took him into Bryan and said here you go. Most nights Bryan would get up, get him back to sleep and put him back in bed….but not this night. I guess Bryan needed his sleep as much as I did and we ended up just letting him “sleep” with us. Note that when I say sleep I don’t really mean sleep, I mean he laid in bed with us and cried and was inconsolable. I knew within just a few minutes we were in for a very long night. I felt sorry for Deacon because I knew something was wrong…I wasn’t for sure but I was guessing another ear infection.

Thursday morning I took Deacon to the doctor and was not surprised when he said that he had an ear infection, but I was surprised when he said he had a double ear infection. This makes number ?, I have honestly lost track of how many ear infections he has had since Christmas. We go back to the doctor in 2 weeks to “reevaluate” Deacon’s ears and discuss tubes. I have mixed feelings about this, but I am not going to get ahead of myself, so we will wait to see what the doctor has to say in a couple weeks.

Last night was not any better, but I hoping the maybe, just maybe the worst has past. One thing that I think Deacon enjoys about being sick is the medicine…the boy loves taking medicine. Once you put it in the syringe (is that what those things are called), he sucks it out in an instant. I think he would drink the whole bottle if I would let him (obviously I wouldn’t do that).

On another note…do you remember this toy?

This has been one of Deacon’s favorite toys, but it is being put away for the awhile. Deacon has started trying to pull up on everything and he has pulled this toy over on himself 3 times. I figure we will put it away for a few weeks and when we pull it out he will think he has a new toy :)

We Will Miss the Purcells

Last weekend we said good-bye to some very dear friends of ours…the Purcells (Jason, Lauren and Riley). We met Jason and Lauren in our first small group here and have been friends ever since. Over the past couple years we became great friends and have been through pregnancy and the first steps of parenthood together.

Lauren has always been great for advice. During my pregnancy I would always check her pregnancy blog to compare and even still do the same with parenting. She even gets crazy phone calls from me, since I sometimes turn into that crazy paranoid 1st time mom. Like the when Deacon started rolling over in his sleep and I told Bryan he had to flip him to his back every time he rolled on his belly. Of course, Bryan told me that was impossible and he would be okay. But I did not want to take an amateur’s advise, so I called Lauren. She reassured me that he would be fine and made me fell a lot better. Thanks Lauren…but just because you are moving to California don’t expect those calls to stop…lol!

Jason and Bryan love to do all those “manly” things, like fishing and hunting and whatever else guys do. Riley is such a sweet little girl and is always so loving. She is so sweet to Deacon.
We had a going away party for them on Saturday and spent the afternoon hanging out…it was so much fun. All of the kiddos entertained us. Sunday after church we had lunch at Olive Garden and said our good-byes.

They started their journey to California today and this makes me very sad, but at the same time I am happy for them and all the new things California will bring. I have to add that today I was driving down the road and I seen a black Tahoe pulling a Uhaul and I thought I wonder if that is Jason…about the time I noticed Lauren’s car following closely. I of course had to call her and let her know I was stalking them as they were heading out of town.

Jason, Lauren and Riley…we wish you the best and look forward to visiting :)

A New Job Requires Some New Things
Deacon and I want to congratulate Bryan on his new job! We are very proud of you and love you very much!

Along with the new job come a few changes:

1. A new vehicle: He will be traveling more therefore his truck was not going to be cost efficient. For the last week he has been car shopping and quickly decided on a Honda Accord. Thanks to a friend from Church for hooking us up :)
Unfortunately, Bryan loved his truck…so it was a bittersweet goodbye for him. Sunday he spent the afternoon cleaning it out and Deacon even went outside to play in Daddy’s truck one last time. He enjoyed "driving" and dancing to the music while he watched kids go by on bikes and scooters.

There is a funny story that goes along with the car buying saga. Bryan was supposed to pick the car up Monday afternoon because it was being delivered from a different town. But, you see, in transit a few rocks hit the car which caused the windshield to crack and messed up the paint on the front end. Instead, Bryan was given a different car to drive for the day and went back on Tuesday for a different Accord. It added a little twist to buying a car, but in the end Bryan has his car.

2.A new wardrobe: He is going to have to dress up a bit more on some days…yes Landon, he is now required to wear a tie to work. (My brother has been convinced that one time he was here visiting and Bryan wore a tie to work, so he always says that Bryan has to wear a tie.) Bryan has a few ties, but this weekend we will be going shopping for some new clothes for Bryan.

The best thing about this job is that we get to stay in Little Rock!
