( 0.1 / 1173 )Overdue Play Date
We were finally able to get together with Heather and Amelia for a play date. When Amelia first arrived Deacon was trying to relax.

But that didn't stop Amelia from playing.

Deacon decided he wasn't going to get any peace and quiet in the house.

So he decided to push Amelia around in his car.

Amelia loved this car. I think she is hoping for one for her birthday that is next month.

After lunch we took a walk since it was a nice day.

Amelia was very into Deacon, but most of the time Deacon seemed like he was a little overwhelmed with her. Through most of the walk Amelia was pulling on his pants and shoes, it was so funny, well at least to Heather, Amelia and me.
I am in the process of trying to get Deacon to one nap a day a home, he usually takes 2 short ones. My goal yesterday was to keep him entertained all morning so he would take a long afternoon nap. And...my plan worked great. The play date ended around 1:00. Neither kid had a nap that morning and they were great all day. Once they left Deacon crashed and slept for 3 hours. 3 hours! Needless to say, I was a little ecstatic.
He is napping now, so we will see how long it last today.

( 0.6 / 144 )17 Months
Deacon is 17 months old. He is so much fun! He is such a little bundle of energy.
- Eating: When this little boy likes something he will eat it up. He is somewhat picky, but some of his favorite foods are chicken and rice and chicken pot pie. His favorite type of food is fruit, he loves all kinds of fruit.
- Mr. Independent: He always wants to do things on his own. One big thing is feeding himself with a spoon. At home I always let him, but when we are out in public I would like to help but he will not allow it. When walking he doesn’t want to hold our hands because he is a big boy and doesn’t need to.

- Sleeping: We are no longer rocking Deacon at night. Most nights he goes down very easy and I am very thankful for this. He is still going to bed at 8:00 and getting up around 6:00. I am hoping he will eventually start sleeping in. He still has to be rocked for naps, but maybe we will start working on changing that. Today I rocked him for about a minute before I put him in bed, and he never made a peep.
- Teeth: Deacon now has 11 teeth. It seems like they all started coming at once. He is still working on 3 of those 11. He has his 4 top front teeth, 3 bottom front teeth, and 2 molars on each side, one on top and one on bottom.

- He weighs about 22.5 lbs and is mostly wearing 12 month clothes. I think he is about ready to move into some 18 month clothes very soon.
- Talking and Signing: Deacon prefers sign language over actually talking. His favorite thing to say are animal sounds. His favorites are monkey, cow and duck sounds. I think his favorite word right now is PawPaw.
- He has recently found the cabinet that has Maggie dog food and treats and he always wants to feed her and give her treats. Of course Maggie is liking Deacon more and more.
- Time Out: We are still using time out, but I honestly think that Deacon puts himself timeout more than I put him in time out. It is so funny because if I tell him no, he will go sit in his time out spot and cry because he wants to get up.
- Bath time: Deacon’s favorite time of the day is bath time. He loves to play in the bathtub. He is always so happy and laughing hysterically when he is in there playing.
- He still loves to sing songs and read books. But once again his independence takes over and he likes to read them himself.

- Like most little boys age he is into everything and loves to climb.

- But he also like to help clean up.

Everyday Deacon provides lots of great entertainment.

We are so blessed to get to be his parents.

( 3.1 / 36 )Skyping
Look who it is...
It's Grandma Chris and Grandpa Kent!

One of Deacon's favorite things to do is Skype with his Grandma and Grandpa. He loves that he has free reign of the computer.

Tonight we Skyped with them and Grandpa Kent was drinking out of a red cup and Deacon decided he wanted Grandpa to share. He kept opening his mouth and trying to grab the cup off the screen, it was so funny.
We are so glad that we are able to communicate with them this way.

( 3 / 44 )Day at the Races
Yesterday we decided to venture out to Oaklawn for opening weekend. I was excited for Deacon to go to the horse races for the first time. Growing up one of my favorite memories was going to the track to visit my great-grandpa Tommy. We would always go to the back to visit him and see all of the horses. It was always so much fun. I wasn’t sure what to expect with taking a 1 year old to the races, but he did pretty good. First he checked out the horses names, because Mommy says that is important.
Then he got to see the horses, he love this. He also felt the need to wave at all of the horses.
Then MawMaw taught him how to cheer on the horses.
I think he enjoyed his first day at the races.
When he got home he went searching for his winnings, ha.
We thought he might like his horse better after seeing the real horses, but we were wrong. So, MawMaw rode with him.
Cayden and McGwire sent Deacon two big Tonka trucks and he loves them. He says thank you!
MawMaw has been pushing him all around weekend.
Last night mom and dad watched Deacon while Bryan and I hung out with some friends. It was great getting to spend a late night full of laughter with great friends. One great thing about my parents visiting is that they always let us sleep in. They take Deacon in the morning and we appreciate that more than they know. So, this morning while having their special time my dad gave Deacon some jelly and obviously he loved it.
