Drip, Drip, Cough
Saturday morning we, well really I, decided it was time to do some boxing/bagging up of Deacon’s items. I had 1 box of clothes ready to go to the attic and knew that there was a lot more things that could also make the big move up stairs. I first went through his toy box, then headed to Deacon’s room and finished in the closet. With Bryan’s help, and some “help” from Deacon (if that is what you call pulling everything out of the box that I had just put in), we came up with this load.
Later on Saturday afternoon, we noticed that Deacon was getting a nasty cough. We didn’t have anything planned for the day so we just hung out around the house all day. We had already planned on Deacon and me staying home from church on Sunday, but we were surprised to find that morning that he was running a fever and had a runny nose.
Yesterday, I stayed home with him and took him to the doctor. It seemed to me that the same thing he had in Illinois was coming back. To make a long story short…if he is still sick tomorrow I am supposed to call the doctor back. After we got home from the doctor, Deacon took a very long nap! When he woke up he wanted to play. We pulled out his trucks and rugs, but he thought it was a dance floor (and Maggie thought she would try it out too)
And was so proud of himself.
That night when Daddy got home they snuggled and watched some TV…one of their favorite things to do together.
Today Deacon stayed at home with Deacon. When I got home Bryan was almost done cooking a delicious dinner, had cleaned out our guest room closet and was holding a crying baby. I’m thinking maybe he could be a stay at home dad! He says he loves it, but only for one day. I think he would go crazy doing it all the time, but he would be great.
Deacon and Daddy had lots of fun today, that is when Deacon was awake…Bryan said he slept a lot today too. They had new tricks to show me this evening and Deacon was of course proud of all his new talents.
When I talked to Bryan this afternoon he thought that Deacon was doing much better, but by the time he went to bed he wasn’t feeling so hot. It seems like after his naps or bath he seems to be doing better, but then it goes downhill from there. His fever is back up, he is fussy, he is coughing less frequently, and his rose is running constantly. Poor little guy is not wanting to eat or drink hardly anything, so we are at the point we will do whatever it takes to het him to either.
Deacon is hoping to kick this bug soon.
Or he might have to beat someone up with his bat.
Is that outfit not the cutest…he looks like a Cardinals’ super fan just like his cousins.

( 0.7 / 158 )Ringing in the New Year
This New Year’s celebration was a bit different from those in the past. The last couple of years a group of us would get together and hang out until well past midnight. Even last year, when Deacon was much smaller than he is now, we were able to get together and had several pack and plays and Deacon even slept in his carseat. However, this year was much different. We went out to eat with friends and then came home for some family time. We kept Deacon up until 10:00. We had our own little countdown to 10:00 with him and said Happy New Years and toasted, Deacon of course had a sippy cup of milk, but he thought that was so funny.
Before Deacon went to bed we got a family picture.
It is very difficult to get him to look at the camera when it is on a timer.
The next day we had lunch with some friends, what a great way to start the year. Thanks again Amy for lunch…it was delicious!
Deacon had fun playing with Reed and Owen. He wanted to either chase or be chased by Owen, but Owen wasn’t much interested in the game. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of the two of them together. However, Deacon found Reed very interesting. Reed just started crawling and Deacon thought it was fun to lay on the ground and roll around like Reed.
All three boys took naps at the same time, how lucky were we, which meant the parents got a chance to hang out and talk (or in the guys case…watch football) without any distractions.
We wish everyone a happy and healthy 2010!

( 1.5 / 59 )Deacon's 1st Pony
For Christmas PawPaw Ron and MawMaw Tonya got Deacon his first pony! I remember having one of these as a kid and it was so much fun. We were anxious to get it out for Deacon to take his first ride but since we had lots to unpack and put away the pony stayed in it’s box in the garage for a few days. Finally, it was time to put him together. Deacon of course wanted to help Daddy.
He even went and grabbed his drill.
But when that didn’t seem to help he decided to try his sunglasses.
Deacon did not have the reaction we expected…he was actually kinda scared of it, so daddy rode it with him.
Then he decided he just wanted to climb it over and over again.
He ended up sitting on it once and seemed to enjoy it…
but it didn’t last long.
For now, we have it put away and will try again in a couple of months. I know that one day he will always want to be on this thing and we will have to pry him off of it.

( 3.1 / 51 )Holiday Crafts
I have mentioned before that Deacon’s daycare does a great job of making crafts with the kids. When we got back from Christmas he had two crafts to bring home. First his Thanksgiving art…he was very proud to show this off. He actually carried it all over the house for a few days.
Then he decided that it needed to go the refrigerator!
They (his teachers) made this towel for their Christmas program.
Even though he was not there to participate since we had taken the towel they went ahead and made it for him. He is still carrying this around the house and cleaning the furniture and floors with it…his daddy says I have been teaching him well, ha!

( 0.5 / 153 )2009 in Review
Wow, what a year it has been. I seriously think that life just gets better and better every year. We have had a great year, even though it did not end as we had planned, I still feel that God has blessed us more than we deserve. I feel that it is in the bad times, that I grow stronger in Christ and I see things much more clear. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. Jeremiah 17:7
Looking back at everything that has went on in 2009, I wonder how we fit it all into one year!
When we started the year Deacon was just starting to eat baby food. I spent a lot of time in the kitchen making fruits and vegetables that I had never even heard of.
This year had many memorable events… sitting up, crawling, standing, walking and now running. Isn’t it amazing that he went from an immobile little being to a wild little toddler in just 12 months.
After several ear infections, trips to the doctor and sleep nights, Deacon got tubes and we are so happy with them. They have seriously made life so much easier.
This year also was a year of the 1st trips…to the beach
the zoo
and to his grandparents to visit by himself.
Of course we can’t forget Deacon’s 1st Birthday, celebrated twice.
These are just a few of my favorite times from the past year. I look forward to what 2010 holds, knowing that we will have more defining moments with each year. While we are looking to the future making our plans I know that as long as we are together and in God’s hands we are right where we need to be.
God’s gifts put man’s best dreams to shame. – Elizabeth Barrett Browning
