Snow Ice Day
The weathermen had been predicting a big winter storm for Friday. I always like to have one big snow a year and her in Arkansas that is usually all we get. And by big snow here that usually means an inch or more. I tried not to get too excited about the possibility of snow because more often than not their predictions seem to be off.

However, Friday we woke up to winter weather but instead of snow we were getting ice so we were stuck indoors. I always feel like if we are at home all day I need to do an activity or project with Deacon just to change things up. I decided to breakout the finger paint.

Deacon loves to paint and he does a great job. I still of course take his clothes off of him, even though it's washable it is easier to strip him down.

After painting it was time for lunch. Someone was just so exhausted that he couldn't stay awake to eat.

All day I kept saying I just wish there was a little bit of snow so Deacon can play in it. We didn't get much but when Deacon woke up from his nap we told him he could go play in the snow and he was so excited.

Aunt Brooke found a snow suit, well acutally two, that was Cayden and McGwire's and it was just Deacon's size. I didn't think we would get to use it but was so happy to have it yesterday and so was Deacon.

He fell down once.

But he loved playing in the little bit of snow we had.

He did not like his boots having snow on them, so he kept cleaning them off.

He loved it so much he didn't want to come inside, but it was freezing cold. I don't think we were out there for even 5 minutes.

Later that evening Deacon decided it was time to give Elmo a computer lesson.

This morning he woke up with high hopes that we would have more snow to play in, but we didn't...just the lingering ice.

Hiding
Deacon has found a new hiding spot.

Bryan has been out of town since Monday and we were pleasantly surprised when he called tonight and said he was headed home early.

Deacon decided he would hide out and wait for him...

And when the time was right he wanted to jump out and scare him. Deacon loves to hide just to say "Boo"

Unfortunately for Deacon he had to go to bed before his Daddy got home, but he will be pleasantly surprised tomorrow morning to have his favorite playmate back.

Overdue Play Date
We were finally able to get together with Heather and Amelia for a play date.

When Amelia first arrived Deacon was trying to relax.

But that didn't stop Amelia from playing.

Deacon decided he wasn't going to get any peace and quiet in the house.

So he decided to push Amelia around in his car.

Amelia loved this car. I think she is hoping for one for her birthday that is next month.

After lunch we took a walk since it was a nice day.

Amelia was very into Deacon, but most of the time Deacon seemed like he was a little overwhelmed with her. Through most of the walk Amelia was pulling on his pants and shoes, it was so funny, well at least to Heather, Amelia and me.

I am in the process of trying to get Deacon to one nap a day a home, he usually takes 2 short ones. My goal yesterday was to keep him entertained all morning so he would take a long afternoon nap. And...my plan worked great. The play date ended around 1:00. Neither kid had a nap that morning and they were great all day. Once they left Deacon crashed and slept for 3 hours. 3 hours! Needless to say, I was a little ecstatic.

He is napping now, so we will see how long it last today.

17 Months
Deacon is 17 months old. He is so much fun! He is such a little bundle of energy.

- Eating: When this little boy likes something he will eat it up. He is somewhat picky, but some of his favorite foods are chicken and rice and chicken pot pie. His favorite type of food is fruit, he loves all kinds of fruit.

- Mr. Independent: He always wants to do things on his own. One big thing is feeding himself with a spoon. At home I always let him, but when we are out in public I would like to help but he will not allow it. When walking he doesn’t want to hold our hands because he is a big boy and doesn’t need to.

- Sleeping: We are no longer rocking Deacon at night. Most nights he goes down very easy and I am very thankful for this. He is still going to bed at 8:00 and getting up around 6:00. I am hoping he will eventually start sleeping in. He still has to be rocked for naps, but maybe we will start working on changing that. Today I rocked him for about a minute before I put him in bed, and he never made a peep.

- Teeth: Deacon now has 11 teeth. It seems like they all started coming at once. He is still working on 3 of those 11. He has his 4 top front teeth, 3 bottom front teeth, and 2 molars on each side, one on top and one on bottom.

- He weighs about 22.5 lbs and is mostly wearing 12 month clothes. I think he is about ready to move into some 18 month clothes very soon.

- Talking and Signing: Deacon prefers sign language over actually talking. His favorite thing to say are animal sounds. His favorites are monkey, cow and duck sounds. I think his favorite word right now is PawPaw.

- He has recently found the cabinet that has Maggie dog food and treats and he always wants to feed her and give her treats. Of course Maggie is liking Deacon more and more.

- Time Out: We are still using time out, but I honestly think that Deacon puts himself timeout more than I put him in time out. It is so funny because if I tell him no, he will go sit in his time out spot and cry because he wants to get up.

- Bath time: Deacon’s favorite time of the day is bath time. He loves to play in the bathtub. He is always so happy and laughing hysterically when he is in there playing.

- He still loves to sing songs and read books. But once again his independence takes over and he likes to read them himself.

- Like most little boys age he is into everything and loves to climb.

- But he also like to help clean up.

Everyday Deacon provides lots of great entertainment.

We are so blessed to get to be his parents.
