Sweet Potatoes
Today we all were at home because of the weather, we enjoyed getting to spend time together as a family.

Deacon had his first taste of food, other than cereal. I had planned on doing this on Saturday, but then since we were home today I decided to go ahead and try it today. He had his first taste of sweet potatoes and loved them.

Anxiously awaiting his food.

First Bite.

Deacon says "not too bad."

And yes he was still in his pajamas at this time. Like I said we were home for the day and felt like bumming for most of the day.

Deacon is dying to attack the keyboard, so here is a message from Deacon:

All is Well!
Deacon is fully recovered and back to normal! It was nice to get to spend lots of time at home with him, but I was kind of going a little stir crazy. Bryan was out of town from Tuesday to Friday, so Deacon and I did not leave the house that whole time. By the time Friday rolled around we were happy to get out and pick up Bryan from the airport. I had got the all clear from the doctor, so we actually got to go into the airport! (It is amazing what excites you when you haven’t been out of the house in 4 days) Deacon was so excited to see other people, he would hardly look at Bryan. We were all happy that Bryan was back home! I think I was probably the most anxious for Bryan to return because as most of you know I do not like staying by myself…I am a big chicken. Not to mention Maggie barks at every little nose when Bryan is gone and makes it worse. But we made it through just fine.

Saturday we spent most of the day just bumming out around the house. On Sunday we went to church and Deacon got to see all of his friends finally. However, Deacon really did not seem interested in anyone at church. Lots of people try to get his attention and talk to him but he would always turn his head or look at the ceiling. I said he was being a snob. The only person he really seemed interested in was Riley…you better watch out Kaleb, Deacon is trying to move in on your girlfriend. Deacon and Daddy spent Sunday afternoon just the two of them hanging out and playing.

Yesterday was Deacon’s first day back to daycare. Everyone was so excited to see him. I was a little nervous about how he would do today since he has been at home and of course spoiled for the last two weeks. But when I went to feed him at lunch, they said he was doing great and having lots of fun playing.

Here are some pictures from the last few days and here are the 5 month pictures.

5 months
Deacon is five months old today! He is getting so big. I noticed the other day he is about to outgrown his changing table, which he has absolutely loved since he was born. He still loves laying up there and getting his diapers and clothes changed. It is going to be a very sad day for him when he no longer fits.

Some things Deacon is doing at five months:
*Sleeping at least 10 hours every night. We have a good bedtime routine down now and he is sleeping great.
*Loving his cereal. We have just started back on cereal. He took a little break last week when he was sick because he wasn’t eating very much and I did not want to fill him up with cereal.
*Practicing sitting up! He usually has the boppy around him for support, but sometime I will pull it away and let him do it on his own.
* He has the cutest little laugh. He laughs and smiles at everything. But Daddy has learned that things are only funny once or at the most twice.
* Grabbing everything! Mommy and Daddy’s food, drinks, faces, hair…if it is in his reach he will get it.
* Holding his bottle.
* He still loves his baths. He kicks and splashes until there is almost no water left.
* Putting his feet in his mouth. He really enjoys doing this while trying to change his diaper and clothes.
* One of his favorite things is playing in front of the mirror.
* Reading books and singing songs are still a favorite of Deacon’s. He even tries to sing along sometimes. His favorite songs are “If you’re happy and you know it” and “The Hokey Pokey”.

Here is Deacon sitting up for the first time all by himself.

I might add that all of the above are done when he wants to. Depending on who is around and his mood determines what he can do. For example, he will not hold his bottle for me or one of the teachers at school. He has already learned how to play certain people. Here is a picture of him holding his bottle for Daddy.

Someone asked me the other day if having a child was worth it, I was kind of taken by the question, but told her “absolutely.” I love that no matter what when I see him the first thing he does is smile. It melts my heart every time. I thank God everyday for this precious gift he has entrusted to us.

I am having some issues with getting the album to post. I will try to post some 5 month pictures tomorrow.

More Blogs to Read
I have added two of my favorite blogs to my list of “blogs that I read.” Of course Bryan refuses to look at them because he “only reads blogs about people that he knows.” If you ever have a few minutes or hours these are two great blogs. I consider these to be true blogs, ours on the other hand is just purely informational.

This first one Kelly's Korner, is one I have recently started reading. She just had a little girl that is in great need of prayer. There are people all over the country praying for this little girl and her family.

The second blog I added is Bring the Rain. I started reading this right after I had Deacon. At 3:00 am there is nothing on tv, so I would read this blog on my phone while I fed him. I started from the very beginning and just could not stop reading. If you do read this blog I encourage you to start at the beginning. She found out during her pregnancy that her baby girl had a heart defect and would not live long after birth. I am amazed at her strength, courage and faith through her pregnancy, delivery and mourning. Angie is such an inspiration.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. Thanks to Andrea for expanding my blog reading.

Recovering and a visit from MaMaw and PaPaw
Sorry it has taken me so long to give you an update, Deacon is feeling much better. He still has a cough and runny nose. When we went back to the doctor on Thursday, our doctor said that she could hear a slight improvement in his lungs. She said day 2 or 3 is usually the worst, so we think Wednesday was the worst day. We did find out that he had developed an ear infection sometime between Monday and Thursday. So, this is ear infection #2 in his right ear. He had got to the point where he was not eating much, so our biggest fear last week turned to dehydration. It seemed like every day we had something we needed to track, whether it was the number of breaths he was taking per minute, his temperature, fluid intake or wet diapers. But thankfully we are past that now. Now we are just keeping in since he is still considered to be contagious. His personality is back to normal and we are very happy for this. He is enjoying playing with his toys and getting back to a daily schedule. One thing that has came back in just the past few days is his “squealer”. I have said in the past that when he gets really excited he likes to squeal like a little girl, but since he has been sick his voice has been very horse and we had not heard that. Yesterday it came back in full force and Deacon had obviously missed hearing himself squeal, because he was squealing like crazy, which was followed by him laughing at himself. We are so happy that he is feeling much better. Thank you for all your prayers, calls and emails.

What could be better than a visit from MaMaw and PaPaw when your sick? PaPaw Ron and MaMaw Tonya came for a visit this past weekend. As always we enjoyed the time we got to spend with them. They arrived on Friday afternoon, and Bryan cooked dinner for all of us. Saturday morning my mom and I did some shopping, as always, then that afternoon Bryan and my dad went to Oaklawn to the horse races. That evening Deacon stayed at home with MaMaw and PaPaw while Bryan and I went to a movie. It was nice to go out just the two of us, especially since we had been restricted to the house for about a week. On Sunday MaMaw and PaPaw got some more alone time with Deacon while we went to church in the morning and to a meeting that evening. They left Monday morning, but have already made plans for the next trip. As usual Deacon was spoiled, but so were we. Mom and Dad took Deacon’s monitor in their room and got up with him each morning, and on Sunday we even had breakfast waiting on us when we finally woke up. Thank you for spoiling us all!
Today was a historical moment in our country. Deacon and I took it all in today, as I was working from home. We had the Inauguration coverage on all morning. It is amazing to me to think that he will read about in history books as he grows up.

Here are some pictures from this week.
